Aglaonema pictum tricolor

Aglaonema pictum tricolor

Native to Southeast Asian tropical forests, this understory plant brings a distinctive botanical character to shaded indoor collections. It is well suited to growers who can provide stable warmth and a sheltered growing space.

  • Light: Moderate to bright, indirect light near an east-facing window or behind a sheer curtain. Avoid direct midday sun.
  • Temperature: Warm-growing, ideally 70–85°F (21–29°C). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F (16°C).
  • Humidity: Aim for 60–80% humidity with gentle air circulation.
  • Watering: Water when the top 1–2 inches of the medium begin to dry, keeping the root zone lightly moist rather than saturated. Use a well-draining aroid mix and empty any water collected beneath the pot.
  • Growth Habit: Terrestrial, upright growth on cane-like stems, gradually forming a fuller plant through basal shoots. It does not climb or require a moss pole; a small stake can support an older stem if needed.

Additional Notes:

Growth is generally slow, so avoid oversized pots and allow the roots to establish before repotting. Feed lightly during active growth and wipe the leaves gently to remove dust. Established basal shoots can be separated once they have developed their own roots.
