Alocasia longiloba 'watsoniana'red vein

Alocasia longiloba 'watsoniana'red vein

A striking Southeast Asian aroid cultivar prized for its elongated, arrow-shaped leaves with a deep green surface dramatically contrasted by bold red-toned veining — a feature that makes the 'watsoniana' red vein form one of the most visually arresting selections within the longiloba group. An excellent statement plant for collectors seeking bold tropical foliage with a distinctive color accent.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun to prevent leaf scorch. Consistent bright light enhances the contrast of the red venation. Thrives near a filtered window or under grow lights.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm growing. 65–82°F (18–28°C); protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 60–85%; benefits from elevated humidity to maintain leaf quality and prevent tip browning. A humidifier or pebble tray is recommended.
  • Watering: Water when the top inch of substrate dries out; ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot. Never allow to sit in standing water.

Additional Notes:

Foliage is elongated and arrow-shaped with a glossy dark green surface and prominent red veining that intensifies with adequate light. Plant in a well-draining aroid mix (bark, perlite, coco coir). Fertilize monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season.
