More information

Anthurium besseae aff x Anthurium Velvety Night (rec.)

Anthurium besseae aff x Anthurium Velvety Night (rec.)

A hybrid between Anth. besseae aff. and Anth. Velvety Night (rec.) — itself a cross of Anth. papillilaminum x Anth. Crystal Dress — combining the elongated leaf character of besseae aff. with the dark velvety depth of the Velvety Night lineage. The result is a plant with large, dark blue-grey velvety cordiform leaves on striking deep burgundy petioles that are visible from the earliest growth stages.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; avoid direct sun. Thrives near an east- or north-facing window, or under grow lights.
  • Temperature: Intermediate-warm growing — 65°F–82°F (18°C–28°C). Protect from temperatures below 60°F (15°C).
  • Humidity: 70–90%. Use a humidifier or high-humidity enclosure for best results. Avoid dry air from heating or AC vents.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the top inch of the substrate feels dry. Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix. Never let roots sit in standing water.
  • Growth Habit: Upright; produces large cordiform-elongated leaves with a pronounced apex and open basal lobes. Benefits from a moss pole or totem as it matures.

Additional Notes:

The moderately bullate, velvety surface deepens in color with leaf age. Lighter green primary venation is visible in relief against the dark blade. Some lateral leaves are more elongated and narrow, reflecting the besseae aff. influence. The '(rec.)' designation indicates Velvety Night was used as the recurrent parent in this cross. Minor variation between individuals is expected.
