Anthurium besseae 'Green Zafire' (seedling)

Anthurium besseae 'Green Zafire' (seedling)

A seedling of the select cultivar Anth. besseae 'Green Zafire', named for its deep, jewel-like green foliage. Even at this early stage the compact, rounded leaves already show the species’ characteristic velvety surface — a preview of the spectacular mature form, where broad cordate blades develop a near-black deep green tone with bold cream-white venation radiating across the entire leaf.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; avoid direct sun. Thrives near an east- or north-facing window, or under grow lights.
  • Temperature: Intermediate-warm growing — 65°F–82°F (18°C–28°C). Protect from temperatures below 60°F (15°C).
  • Humidity: 70–90%. Use a humidifier or high-humidity enclosure for best results. Avoid dry air from heating or AC vents.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the top inch of the substrate feels dry. Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix. Never let roots sit in standing water.
  • Growth Habit: Upright; develops large cordate leaves with an increasingly dramatic velvety surface as it matures. Benefits from a moss pole or totem for support.
  • Maintenance: As a seedling, this plant benefits from stable humidity and temperatures. Avoid sudden environmental changes and repot only when roots are well established.

Additional Notes:

At maturity, the deep green velvety surface contrasts sharply with the prominent cream-white primary and secondary venation — one of the most striking foliage patterns in the besseae group. New growth emerges in bright lime green before deepening to the characteristic dark tone.
