This seedling came in with very healthy roots pretty much bursting out of the small nursery pots these plants usually arrive in, as well as a damaged but very healthy new leaf. I ordered two of these seedlings from the direct Ecuador site this past year and both of them just melted away almost immediately. I took a risk purchasing from the USA site instead, because I thought maybe they just really struggled with the international shipping. And it arrived very happy and is thriving 3 weeks later!
(The ones that melted immediately both arrived with good roots and leaves, so I'm not sure what it was. I lightly cleaned the second with a 1-to-3 hydrogen peroxide-to-water rinse and still it died almost immediately so I wonder if it was fungal/bacterial or really just from shipping stress). So, I highly recommend buying this species directly from the USA site because it seems to deal with the domestic shipping process MUCH better than international shipping.
Its leaves are velvety similar to waterburyanum or warocqueanum, but I just absolutely love the color or the leaves (light green when young, through a medium green and much shinier stage back to more velvety and darker green) and LOVE the raised/sharp primary veining on these. If you don't have one of these get one immediately.
