Bulbophyllum emarginatum

Bulbophyllum emarginatum

This is a miniature-sized epiphyte found in the mountain forests of the Chinese Himalayas at high elevations. It has a creeping growth habit and a single leaf with a notched tip.

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light or filtered shade. Protect it from the midday sun. Consistent, good light is necessary for the best flowering.
  • Temperature: Grow as a Cool to Intermediate species. Maintain daytime temperatures between 70-80°F (21-27°C) and allow for a night drop to 60-64°F (15-18°C) to stimulate blooming.
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity, ideally 60-90%. Strong air circulation is mandatory to prevent leaf spot and rot, especially under high-humidity conditions.
  • Watering: Water frequently and heavily during the active growth periods. The roots must be kept consistently moist and should never dry out completely. Ensure the medium drains quickly.

Additional Notes

The inflorescence is a short raceme that typically holds one to two relatively large flowers, measuring up to 2 inches (5 cm). The flowers are characterized by very long lateral sepals that are fused near the edges.
