This epiphytic orchid subspecies is native to the wet tropical biome, ranging from the Moluccas to New Guinea. It features ovoid to conical pseudobulbs and is notable for its funnel-shaped floral bracts (infundibuliforme means "funnel-shaped"), which enclose the developing flowers.
The inflorescence typically produces 1 to 5 wide-opening flowers. This subspecies can bloom at various times throughout the year.
