Cattleya Enchantress (1914) f. coerulea 'Gigi' x splash

This is a complex hybrid, originating from a cross between C. quadricolor and C. intermedia. This specific grex has the coerulea form ('Gigi'), which contributes blue-lavender tones, crossed with a 'splash' petal form, which introduces contrasting color markings on the petals.

  • Light: Requires bright, indirect light to encourage blooming. A south or west-facing window is often suitable, provided the light is filtered to prevent leaf burn. Insufficient light is the most common reason for failure to flower.
  • Temperature: Classified as an intermediate to warm-growing hybrid. Maintain daytime temperatures between 60-85°F (16-29°C). A 10-15°F (6-8°C) drop in temperature at night is beneficial for bloom initiation.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is required, ideally 50% to 70%. Ensure good air circulation at all times to prevent spotting and disease, especially in high-humidity conditions.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the potting medium becomes mostly dry. Allow the roots to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering frequency in the winter or during periods of dormancy.

Additional Notes

Produces large, showy blooms with delicate white or pale lavender petals framing a striking deep purple lip with a ruffled edge and lighter throat. The flowers are generally long-lasting and often fragrant. A sophisticated hybrid for discerning orchid collectors.
