Pescatoria ecuadorana f. alba

Pescatoria ecuadorana f. alba

A stunning white form of this rare Ecuadorian species, prized for its pristine, pure white blooms that lack the typical pigmentation of the standard form. Native to the cloud forests of Ecuador, this cool-growing species produces waxy, fragrant flowers with a captivating crystalline appearance — a true gem for any serious orchid collection.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light — an east-facing window or shaded greenhouse bench is ideal; avoid direct midday sun.
  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate; 60–72°F (15–22°C) during the day with nights around 50–58°F (10–14°C). Consistent cool temperatures are essential for healthy growth and blooming.
  • Humidity: 70–85%, mimicking its native cloud forest habitat. Good air circulation is critical to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water frequently and evenly throughout the year, keeping roots moist but never waterlogged. Without pseudobulbs, this species cannot tolerate prolonged drought.

Additional Notes:

Flowers are fully white to pale cream with a delicate, sweet fragrance, and can appear multiple times per year under optimal conditions. Blooms emerge from the base of the plant. Best grown mounted on cork or in a well-draining fine bark mix. Repot only when absolutely necessary, as this species dislikes disturbance.
