Philodendron Red Anderson (seedling)

Philodendron Red Anderson (seedling)

A striking self-heading Philodendron hybrid prized for its dramatic new growth, which emerges in vivid shades of deep red to copper before maturing to a rich, glossy dark green. 'Red Anderson' offers a bold tropical presence with large, sculptural leaves and a compact, upright habit that makes it an excellent statement plant for any indoor tropical collection.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; more light intensifies the red coloration of new growth. Tolerates lower light but may reduce color vibrancy and growth rate.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm growing. 65–82°F (18–28°C); protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 60–80%; benefits from elevated humidity. A humidifier or pebble tray helps maintain optimal conditions.
  • Watering: Water when the top inch of substrate dries out; ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot. Never allow to sit in standing water.

Additional Notes:

Foliage is large and glossy, with new leaves emerging in striking red-copper tones that gradually deepen to dark green as they mature — providing constant visual interest throughout the growing season. Plant in a well-draining aroid mix (bark, perlite, coco coir). Fertilize monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season.

Maintenance: As a baby plant, repot according to growth until it reaches medium size. Provide adequate water, light, and fertilizer, but use less than for adult plants to avoid damaging development.
