Philodendron verrucosum form melon

Philodendron verrucosum form melon

A rare and captivating form of Phil. verrucosum, the 'Melon' form is named for its distinctive light green foliage with a bold, almost quilted venation pattern in pale yellow-green — evoking the surface texture of a melon rind. Striking dark burgundy-red petioles and a rosy-pink cataphyll provide a dramatic contrast to the bright, luminous leaves, making this one of the most visually distinctive verrucosum forms available.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; brings out the full contrast between the pale venation and the green leaf surface. Avoid direct sun, which can bleach the delicate coloration.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to cool-growing; prefers 60–75°F (15–24°C). Protect from heat above 85°F (29°C) and temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: High humidity essential — maintain 70–90%. A humidifier or enclosed growing space is strongly recommended.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist but never waterlogged. Allow the top inch to dry slightly between waterings; excellent drainage is critical.
  • Growth Habit: Vining and climbing; benefits from a moss pole or support structure to encourage larger leaf development as it matures.

Additional Notes:

The 'Melon' form is distinguished by its lighter green, almost luminous foliage with a pronounced quilted venation pattern, dark burgundy petioles, and a rosy cataphyll — a combination that sets it apart from all other verrucosum selections. Fertilize lightly during the growing season with a balanced, diluted fertilizer.
