Phragmipedium Cardinale

Phragmipedium Cardinale

This historic and captivating orchid hybrid, is a cross between the hybrid Phragmipedium Sedenii and the Phragmipedium schlimii. This cross represents the artistry of early orchid breeding, combining the delicate, rosy-pink pouch of Phrag. schlimii with the more vigorous growth and elongated petals of Phrag. Sedenii. The result is a renowned and elegant slipper orchid with a stunning floral display.

  • Light: Prefers moderate, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct morning or late afternoon sun, but should be protected from harsh midday sun to prevent leaf burn.
  • Temperature: Thrives in intermediate to warm temperatures. Ideal daytime temperatures range between 20-27°C (70-80°F), with a distinct nighttime temperature drop of 10-15°C (18-27°F).
  • Humidity: Requires moderate to high humidity, ideally between 40-60%. Good air circulation is vital to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Allow the potting medium to dry out almost completely between waterings, then water thoroughly. Phragmipedium species prefer a distinct wet-dry cycle and well-draining growing media to prevent root rot.

Additional Notes

Phragmipedium Cardinale features distinctive pouch-shaped flowers with a graceful mix of green, pink, red, or purple hues. Its blooms often display delicate patterns and long, elegant petals, reflecting traits from its Phrag. Sedenii parent.
