Ceratostema pendens f. red

Ceratostema pendens f. red

A stunning pendulous Ericaceae from Ecuadorian cloud forests, distinguished by its cascading stems densely clothed in small, waxy leaves that flush in vivid crimson-red to burgundy tones — an exceptionally ornamental form selected for its intense and consistent red coloration.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; some morning sun is tolerated and may enhance red pigmentation. Avoid harsh midday direct sun, which can scorch the foliage.
  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate-growing — 55–72°F (13–22°C). Prefers cool, well-ventilated conditions; avoid prolonged heat above 78°F (26°C).
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity, ideally 60–80%. Good air circulation is important to prevent fungal issues while maintaining moisture.
  • Watering: Water when the top of the substrate begins to dry; never allow to sit in standing water. Use well-draining, acidic substrate suited for epiphytic Ericaceae.
  • Growth Habit: Naturally pendulous and trailing; ideal for hanging baskets, elevated shelves, or mounted displays where stems can cascade freely.

Additional Notes:

Small, ovate, waxy leaves are densely arranged along arching pendulous stems. Red coloration intensifies under bright light and cooler temperatures. Best suited for cool greenhouses, cloud forest vivaria, or bright, well-ventilated indoor spaces.
