Chytroglossa aurata

Chytroglossa aurata

This is a miniature epiphyte native to high-elevation areas in Brazil. It has no pseudobulbs, growing instead as a fan of slender, bright green leaves. This tiny plant is valued for its long, delicate spikes that bear numerous small flowers.

  • Light: Partial shade to dappled light. Provide medium light, avoiding intense, direct sun.
  • Temperature: Warm. Recommended temperature is typically maintained between 68-86°F (20-30°C).
  • Humidity: High (70% or higher). Good air movement is essential to prevent disease in high humidity.
  • Watering: Keep moist year-round. Best grown mounted or in a shallow pot with a fine, fast-draining mix, requiring frequent watering (3-5 times per week).

Additional Notes

This orchid blooms with up to 10 small flowers (approximately 1/2 inch) on a drooping, 6-inch spike. The name "Golden" refers to the flower color, which is usually pale yellow or greenish with light flecks, creating a delicate cascade.
