Trichocentrum pfavii

Trichocentrum pfavii

This orchid is prized for its large, striking flowers and compact size. Originating from Central American rainforests, it’s an ideal orchid for growers seeking a reliable bloom .

  • Light: Provide bright, filtered or indirect light. Protect the plant from any direct sunlight exposure, which can scorch the foliage.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm conditions are required. Found at elevations from 600 to 1500 meters.
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity, ideally 70–85% relative humidity, combined with good air circulation, especially when grown mounted.
  • Watering: As an epiphyte, it requires excellent drainage. Water regularly and heavily, but allow the medium or mount to approach dryness between waterings. Reduce watering slightly in the winter months.

Additional Notes

This miniature species, which typically measures 5 to 7 cm in height, produces showy 3 to 5 cm flowers, borne on short, lateral inflorescences that generally carry one or two flowers.

They can also be mounted on cork, wood, or tree fern plates to suit their growth habit.
