Quality vs Breeding for Value

I purchased this phragmipedium based on its beautiful coloration. I assumed the price was based upon its lineage. When it arrived, I admit to being a little disappointed in the quality, given what I paid for the plant. The leaves were scarred and a little tattered. Worse, a fair bit of the root system was rotten. I had to cut a lot away. Still, I am hopeful it will survive and flower with care. I had just expected a better specimen for its value.
