More information

Philodendron urraoense

Philodendron urraoense

A rare and elegant species-type Philodendron with large, purely elliptic-ovate leaves (no basal sinus) in deep, lustrous dark green with a prominent pale midrib and well-defined parallel secondary venation. The smooth, highly glossy surface and clean leaf form give this species a refined, architectural quality that stands apart from most cordated Philodendrons.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; enhances the deep gloss and venation contrast of the foliage. Tolerates moderate shade. Avoid direct sun.
  • Temperature: Warm-growing; thrives between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: Prefers high humidity (65–85%). A humidifier or enclosed growing space is recommended.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist but well-drained. Allow the top inch to dry slightly between waterings; avoid waterlogging.
  • Growth Habit: Vining and climbing; benefits from a moss pole or support structure to encourage larger leaf development as it matures.

Additional Notes:

Foliage is large, elliptic-ovate with a pronounced acuminate tip, deep glossy green with a pale midrib and parallel secondary venation. Smooth green petioles with a rosy-pink base add a subtle ornamental detail. Fertilize lightly during the growing season with a balanced, diluted fertilizer.
