Sphyrospermum buxifolium var chlorinus

A rare miniature epiphyte from Andean cloud forests, Sphyrospermum buxifolium var. chlorinus is a newly described variety prized for its compact succulent foliage and delicate white flowers with an orange-tipped center.

• Light: Bright indirect light; mimics the dappled canopy conditions of cloud forest environments. Avoid harsh direct sun.
• Temperature: Cool- to intermediate-growing. Thrives between 50–72°F (10–22°C). Tolerates cool nights, which are beneficial for growth and flowering.
• Humidity: 70–90%. High humidity is essential; misting or a humidity-controlled enclosure is recommended.
• Watering: Keep substrate evenly moist but never waterlogged. Excellent drainage is critical. Water frequently in warm months; reduce slightly in cooler periods.

Additional Notes:

Leaves are small, oval, and fleshy with a bright green, lightly textured surface and a fine pubescent margin — perfectly visible in the photograph. Tiny globular flowers appear directly on the stems, white with a distinctive orange-centered corolla. A collector's gem within the Ericaceae family, and a scientifically significant variety documented just recently. Ideal for vivarium, terrarium, or cool-growing cloud forest collections.
