Anguloa tognettiae

Anguloa tognettiae

Anguloa tognettiae is a medium to large-sized terrestrial orchid species. It is a cool to moderate-growing orchid that thrives in the humid conditions of cloud forests. The plant is semi-deciduous, losing its leaves during its dormant period.

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Filtered sunlight is ideal, as direct sun can damage the leaves. It naturally grows under the shade of trees.
  • Temperature: This species thrives in cool to moderate conditions, with daytime temperatures between 18-24°C (65-75°F) and cooler night temperatures around 10-15°C (50-59°F).
  • Humidity: High humidity is recommended, especially during the growing season, with levels around 70%.
  • Watering: Water heavily during the active growth period, keeping the medium moist but well-draining. When the plant is dormant and has lost its leaves, watering should be reduced significantly.

Additional Notes

  • Floral Characteristics: This orchid produces a single, large, waxy, tulip-shaped flower on an erect spike. The blooms are typically cream to pale yellow. The flowers are fragrant and have a hook-like bend to the lip.
