Anthurium esmeraldense

Anthurium esmeraldense Culture

  • Light: This aroid thrives in bright, indirect light. It is accustomed to growing in the understory of dense forests, so it should be protected from any direct sun, which will quickly burn its leaves.
  • Temperature: Anthurium esmeraldense is a warm-growing species. It prefers consistent daytime temperatures between 21-29°C (70-85°F). Nighttime temperatures should not drop below 18°C (65°F).
  • Humidity: High humidity, at or above 70-90%, is crucial for this plant's health and vigorous growth. Dry air can cause leaf edges to turn brown and new leaves to become stunted.
  • Watering: The potting medium should be kept consistently moist but never waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top inch (2-3 cm) of the medium feels dry to the touch. Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix to prevent root rot.

Additional notes:

The foliage is typically dark green, featuring beautiful, contrasting white or pale green veining that creates a striking texture and pattern. The combination of its tropical heritage, unique leaf shape, and mesmerizing visual details makes it a prized specimen and a beautiful representation of Ecuador's rich botanical diversity.
