Anthurium sagittatum ‘Purple’ (Big)

Anthurium sagittatum ‘Purple’ (Big)

A large-growing cultivar of Anthurium sagittatum 'Purple', selected for its exceptional size potential. As it matures, this species develops its signature arrow-shaped leaves with dramatically elongated, divergent basal lobes — a bold, architectural silhouette that becomes increasingly impressive with each new flush. The 'Purple' designation hints at the rich coloration that emerges in the petioles and new growth.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; avoid direct sun. Thrives near an east- or north-facing window, or under grow lights.
  • Temperature: Intermediate-warm growing — 65°F–82°F (18°C–28°C). Protect from temperatures below 60°F (15°C).
  • Humidity: 70–90%. Use a humidifier or high-humidity enclosure for best results. Avoid dry air from heating or AC vents.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the top inch of the substrate feels dry. Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix. Never let roots sit in standing water.
  • Growth Habit: Upright; produces large sagittate leaves on long, slender burgundy petioles. Benefits from a sturdy moss pole or totem as it reaches full size.

Additional Notes:

Leaves are smooth and glossy with a medium green surface and well-defined lateral venation. The distinctly arrow-shaped blade with long, spreading basal lobes is the hallmark of this species. Burgundy petioles add ornamental contrast. Inflorescences may appear even on young plants. Minor variation between individuals is expected.
