Anthurium splendidum

Anthurium splendidum

This is a rare and highly sought-after terrestrial aroid native to the montane forests of Colombia and Ecuador. It is prized for its massive, heavily bullate (bumpy or quilted), dark green leaves with prominent, deeply sunken veins that give the foliage a spectacular, textured appearance.

  • Light: Requires bright, indirect light, which is necessary to encourage large leaf development. Direct sunlight will quickly scorch the delicate foliage.
  • Temperature: Prefers moderate and stable conditions, ideally between 64-77°F (18-25°C).
  • Humidity: Demands very high humidity, ideally 80% or more, often requiring an humidified enclosure (terrarium or plant cabinet) to thrive.
  • Watering: Water when the top 40% of the chunky, well-draining aroid mix feels dry. It requires consistent moisture but is highly susceptible to root rot if the roots remain soggy.

Additional Notes

Due to its need for extremely high humidity and consistent temperature, it is often grown in a closed environment with good air circulation to prevent mold. Like all Anthuriums, the plant is toxic if ingested.
