Brassocattleya Ed Cott

Brassocattleya Ed Cott

A charming compact Brassocattleya hybrid bred from Bc. Fuchs Star crossed with C. coccinea, inheriting the vivid color intensity of its coccinea parent and the floriferous, well-structured form of Fuchs Star. This cross produces soft pink to rose-toned flowers with a warm yellow and magenta labelo, blooming freely on a manageable plant well-suited for windowsill or intermediate greenhouse culture.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; a south- or east-facing window with filtered sun is ideal. Adequate light is key to reliable blooming.
  • Temperature: 60–80°F (15–27°C); tolerates intermediate to warm conditions. Avoid prolonged exposure below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 50–70%; provide good air circulation alongside humidity to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly, then allow the medium to dry almost completely before watering again. Reduce frequency in winter to encourage blooming.

Additional Notes:

Flowers are soft pink to rose with a contrasting yellow and deep pink labelo, displaying the compact, rounded form characteristic of the coccinea influence. Mount on cork or grow in a coarse bark mix with excellent drainage. Fertilize weekly at quarter strength or monthly at full strength during active growth.
