More information

Bulbophyllum bicolor

Bulbophyllum bicolor

This is a miniature, epiphytic or lithophytic species, typically found at low elevations of China. It grows on rocks or trees.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Provide filtered light, avoiding harsh, direct sunlight to prevent scorching.
  • Temperature: Warm to Hot. Ideal daytime temperatures range from 75-85°F (24-29°C). Nighttime temperatures should remain warm, ideally 60-75°F (16-24°C). Avoid cold drafts or temperatures below 60°F.
  • Humidity: High humidity (around 80%) is required to replicate its jungle habitat. Excellent air circulation is mandatory to prevent fungal issues in high humidity.
  • Watering: This species should be kept consistently moist and requires frequent watering, allowing only a slight dry-out between applications. It grows well mounted or in shallow pots using a loose, well-draining, moisture-retentive medium.

Additional Notes

The plant produces short, upright inflorescences with a cluster of small, showy flowers at the apex. The name "bicolor" refers to the striking two-toned flowers, which typically have a creamy yellow or white background with bold red or purple stripes and markings.
