Bulbophyllum claptonense

This small to medium-sized, epiphytic orchid is native to Northeast Borneo. It is closely related to Bulbophyllum lobbii and is a creeping species with distinct, ovoid pseudobulbs, suitable for mounting or shallow pots.

• Light: Provide low to moderate light or semi-shade, with light levels generally recommended between 15,000–20,000 lux, ensuring it is protected from direct, strong sun.
• Temperature: Cultivate as an intermediate to warm grower, with ideal average daytime temperatures ranging between 75-86°F (24-30°C) and a slight nightly drop.
• Humidity: Requires high ambient humidity, striving for levels between 75% and 80% year-round, along with excellent air circulation.
• Watering: Water frequently to keep the well-draining medium consistently moist, especially during active growth, but never soggy; reduce slightly in winter, allowing for a light dry period between waterings.

Additional Notes

Produce large, showy, single flowers on upright stems that can reach nearly 3 inches (7.5 cm) across. The flowers are typically yellow with attractive maroon stripes and spots, and notably, this species does not have the unpleasant odor common to some Bulbophyllum.
