More information

Bulbophyllum lasiochilum dark

Bulbophyllum lasiochilum dark

This is a miniature species, also known as the "Shaggy-lipped Bulbophyllum," native to Southeast Asia. It is valued for its creeping growth habit and its fascinating flowers.

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light or light shade conditions, but avoid strong direct sunlight that could burn its thin leaves.
  • Temperature: Thrives best in intermediate-warm to warm conditions. Ideal daytime temperatures are between 70-80°F (20−27°). Ensure a minimum temperature of 60°F (15°C).
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity (60−90%) to mimic its humid forest habitat, combine this with excellent air circulation to prevent fungal diseases.
  • Watering: Likes to be kept consistently moist, but never soggy. Water as the medium approaches dryness, without allowing it to dry out completely. If mounted, daily watering may be necessary.

Additional Notes

The 'dark' form is distinguished by its dark purple or burgundy upper sepals and petals. This is a sympodial orchid that relies on robust pseudobulbs for storing water and nutrients. Use a well-draining, coarse mix like bark or charcoal.
