This medium-sized, epiphytic orchid is native to the rainforests of Costa Rica and Colombia. Highly valued in breeding for creating dark Cattleya hybrids, it is a rewarding species, though considered moderately challenging to grow successfully.

Light: Requires bright, indirect light. Avoid direct midday sun to prevent leaf burn. Leaves should be light green; dark green indicates insufficient light and may hinder blooming.

Temperature: Prefers intermediate to warm temperatures. A night drop of 10-15°F (6-8°C) is beneficial for flowering. Maintain a general range of 68-86°F (20-30°C).
