Cattleya maxima. f. semialba 'Gigi' x self

This is a self-pollination of the superior clone 'Gigi' of C. maxima. This cross is specifically designed to consistently produce the semialba form-orchids with pristine white or pale petals and sepals, contrasted by a brightly colored lip.

  • Light: Very bright light is required. It can tolerate direct morning or late afternoon sun, but you must protect it from intense midday sun.
  • Temperature: Thrives in Intermediate to Warm conditions. Day temperatures should range from 70-85°F (21-29°C), dropping to 60-70°F (16-21°C) at night. A 10-15°F drop between day and night is essential for flowering.
  • Humidity: High (50-80%) humidity is ideal. Excellent air circulation is mandatory.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the potting mix is almost completely dry. Keep the plant significantly drier during its winter rest period.

Additional Notes

C. maxima is a robust and adaptable grower with a medium to large size and unifoliate pseudobulbs. It is valued for its reliable blooming and high flower count, producing up to 8 large, often fragrant flowers per spike from mature growth.
