Cattleya Puritan (1915)

Cattleya Puritan (1915)

A classic Cattleya hybrid, bred from C. Maggie Raphael and C. warscewiczii. This historic cross produces large, full-form flowers with broad, rounded petals and sepals, and a prominent trilobed lip with a deeply ruffled, flared midlobe — a hallmark of its warscewiczii heritage. Typically bears 2–3 blooms per stem, each with an open, symmetrical face and excellent substance.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 30–50% shade cloth; good light levels are essential for reliable blooming.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm-growing; thrives between 62–86°F (17–30°C). Protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 50–70%; ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the medium to approach dryness between waterings. Reduce slightly after new growth matures.

Additional Notes:

A rewarding and historically significant hybrid that represents over a century of Cattleya breeding. Grow in a well-draining bark mix in a pot sized to the root system. A slight temperature drop at night encourages blooming. Plants are shipped bare root and well-established.
