Cattleya Virgen de Guadalupe

Cattleya Virgen de Guadalupe

An excellent primary hybrid, here are some tips for its care:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Provide strong, dappled sunlight. Insufficient light is the most common reason for failure to flower. If grown indoors, a south-facing window with diffused light is often ideal.
  • Temperature: Thrives in intermediate to warm temperatures. Ideal daytime temperatures range between 20-29°C (68-85°F). A crucial nighttime temperature drop of 10-15°C (18-27°F) is essential to encourage blooming.
  • Humidity: Requires moderate to high humidity, ideally between 40-60%.
  • Watering: Allow the substrate to dry out almost completely between waterings, then water thoroughly. Cattleya orchids prefer a rapid wet-dry cycle.

Parentage Influence:

  • Cattleya maxima: Known for its large, often frilly flowers and robust growth habit, typically in shades of lavender to rose. It can produce multiple flowers on a single inflorescence.
  • Cattleya amethystoglossa: Renowned for its tall inflorescences bearing numerous, strikingly spotted flowers, often with a bold, rich purple lip.
