Discover the recently described Ceratostema guachizacae, a captivating pendulous epiphytic shrub from the cloud forests of southeastern Ecuador. This species is gaining recognition for its ornamental potential, boasting striking flowers adapted for hummingbird pollination.

Cultivation Notes:

  • Light: As an epiphyte from montane wet forests, it would likely appreciate bright, indirect light, similar to the dappled light found under a forest canopy.
  • Temperature: Given its elevation, it would thrive in cool to intermediate temperatures.
  • Humidity: High humidity, characteristic of montane wet forests, is likely crucial for its health and growth.
  • Watering: Consistent moisture with excellent drainage would be essential, mimicking its epiphytic nature.
  • Potting: It may do well mounted or in a very well-draining, airy mix if potted, to accommodate its pendulous and epiphytic growth habit.

This beautiful species needs to maintain adequate ventilation, which is necessary so that the irrigation water can be used.
