Chelyocarpus ulei

Chelyocarpus ulei

A rare fan palm from the South American rainforests, prized for its elegant, deeply divided palmate fronds in rich deep green — a refined and uncommon choice for collectors of tropical palms.

  • Light: Bright indirect light to partial shade. Tolerates lower light than most palms but thrives with good ambient brightness. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun indoors.
  • Temperature: Warm-growing; prefers 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C) and cold drafts.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity preferred, ideally 50–70%. Benefits from a humidifier in dry indoor environments.
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but well-drained. Allow the top inch to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid waterlogging, which can cause root rot.
  • Growth Habit: Single-stemmed, upright palm that grows slowly to a moderate height. Well-suited for bright indoor spaces, patios, or tropical garden settings in frost-free climates.

Additional Notes:

Fronds are palmate (fan-shaped) with slender, pointed segments radiating from a central point, giving the plant a graceful, airy silhouette. A slow grower that rewards patience — young plants already display the elegant form characteristic of the species.
