Dendrobium cuthbertsonii f. bicolor

This bicolored form of a miniature species from southwestern Pacific montane forests offers broad, rounded flowers in pink with creamy-white tips and contrasting darker lips. Its blooms stand prominently above the small plant, making it a distinctive choice for a cool-growing orchid collection.

• Light: Bright, filtered light in a cool greenhouse or well-ventilated growing area. Protect from hot direct sun, which can quickly overheat the foliage.
• Temperature: Cool- to cold-growing; aim for days of 60–70°F (16–21°C) and nights of 45–55°F (7–13°C). Avoid sustained heat and provide a noticeable nighttime temperature drop.
• Humidity: Aim for 75–90% with gentle, continuous air movement. Avoid stagnant air around damp foliage.
• Watering: Keep roots evenly moist throughout the year using low-mineral water and excellent drainage. Do not allow prolonged drying or impose a dry winter rest. Feed lightly with dilute orchid fertilizer during active growth and flush the medium regularly to limit salt accumulation.

Additional Notes:

Very short, clustered stems carry small, rough-textured leaves and gradually form a compact clump. Grow in a small pot with loosely packed sphagnum and airy amendments, or on a moss-covered mount where frequent watering is possible. Keep the root zone cool and minimize disturbance when repotting.
