Ficus villosa

Ficus villosa

A rare creeping Ficus native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, prized for its small oval leaves densely covered in soft, velvety hairs — a texture unlike most other Ficus species. A naturally epiphytic climber that attaches readily to surfaces, ideal for terrariums, mounted displays, or as a creeping groundcover in tropical setups.

  • Light: Bright to medium indirect light; tolerates lower light but grows more vigorously with consistent bright, filtered light. Avoid harsh direct sun.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm growing. 65–82°F (18–28°C); protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 60–85%; benefits from elevated humidity to support vigorous growth.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist but never waterlogged; ensure excellent drainage. Reduce slightly in cooler months.

Additional Notes:

Stems creep and root readily at nodes. Ideal for mounting on cork, driftwood, or tree fern panels. Grow in a well-draining mix (coco coir, perlite, and fine bark). Fertilize lightly monthly during the growing season.
