Hoya cinnamomifolia var cinnamomifolia

Hoya cinnamomifolia var cinnamomifolia

A bold and collector-worthy Hoya species native to Java, Indonesia, prized for its large, prominently veined leaves with a cinnamon-leaf-like texture and its spectacular flower umbels — each bloom displaying a striking combination of yellow-green petals with a deep purple-maroon corona that makes this species instantly recognizable and highly sought after.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; tolerates some morning direct sun. Strong light promotes flowering and enhances leaf texture. Avoid harsh midday sun.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm growing. 65–82°F (18–28°C); protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 60–80%; benefits from elevated humidity for optimal growth and flowering.
  • Watering: Allow the substrate to dry out almost completely between waterings; susceptible to root rot if kept too wet. Reduce frequency in winter.

Additional Notes:

Foliage is large with deeply impressed venation, giving the leaves a textured, ribbed appearance reminiscent of cinnamon leaves. Do not remove spent peduncles, as new blooms emerge from the same spurs each season. Grow in a well-draining mix (perlite, bark, and a small amount of potting mix). Fertilize monthly during the growing season. Provide a trellis or support for its vigorous vining habit.
