Hoya CV Ruthie

Hoya CV Ruthie

A charming and floriferous Hoya cultivar prized for its compact vining habit and glossy, oval leaves that provide an elegant backdrop for its clusters of waxy, star-shaped flowers. 'Ruthie' is an easy-growing and rewarding cultivar well-suited for hanging baskets, shelves, or trained on a small trellis, making it an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced Hoya enthusiasts.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; tolerates some morning direct sun. Adequate light is key to promoting flowering. Avoid harsh midday sun.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm growing. 65–82°F (18–28°C); protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 50–70%; adaptable to average household humidity, though higher levels encourage more vigorous growth.
  • Watering: Allow the substrate to dry out almost completely between waterings; Hoyas are susceptible to root rot if kept too wet. Reduce frequency in winter.

Additional Notes:

Foliage is small, oval, and glossy green, carried on slender vining stems that root readily at nodes. Do not remove spent flower peduncles, as new blooms emerge from the same spurs each season. Grow in a well-draining mix (perlite, bark, and a small amount of potting mix). Fertilize monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season.
