Hoya lamingtoniae

Hoya lamingtoniae

A robust and striking Hoya species native to Australia and Papua New Guinea, prized for its large, thick, and leathery leaves with a deep glossy green surface. A vigorous viner that rewards patient growers with generous umbels of creamy white to pale yellow flowers with a pleasant fragrance — a standout species for collectors seeking something beyond the common Hoyas.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; tolerates some morning direct sun. Strong light promotes flowering and maintains the deep leaf color. Avoid harsh midday sun.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm growing. 65–82°F (18–28°C); protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 50–70%; adaptable to average household humidity, though higher levels support more vigorous growth.
  • Watering: Allow the substrate to dry out almost completely between waterings; the thick leaves store moisture and the plant is susceptible to root rot if kept too wet. Reduce frequency in winter.

Additional Notes:

Foliage is large, thick, and coriaceous with a prominent midrib, carried on vigorous vining stems. Do not remove spent peduncles, as new blooms emerge from the same spurs each season. Grow in a well-draining mix (perlite, bark, and a small amount of potting mix). Fertilize monthly during the growing season. Provide a trellis or support to showcase its vigorous climbing habit.
