Cattleya purpurata uba tuba splash x uba tuba

Cattleya purpurata uba tuba splash x uba tuba

An exceptional intraespecific cross of C. purpurata 'uba tuba splash' with C. purpurata 'uba tuba', combining the bold splash patterning of one parent with the deep, saturated purple labelo characteristic of the classic uba tuba form. Offspring from this pairing are highly sought after for their dramatic white petals and sepals contrasting with a rich, velvety purple lip — one of the most celebrated color combinations in the Cattleya world.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; a south- or east-facing window with filtered sun is ideal. Strong light promotes robust growth and reliable blooming.
  • Temperature: 60–82°F (15–28°C); tolerates intermediate to warm conditions. Avoid prolonged exposure below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 50–70%; ensure good air circulation alongside humidity to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly, then allow the medium to dry almost completely before watering again. Reduce frequency in winter to encourage blooming.

Additional Notes:

Flowers display large, pristine white petals and sepals with a deeply ruffled, intense purple labelo — a hallmark of the finest purpurata forms. Grow in coarse bark or mounted on cork for optimal root aeration. Fertilize weekly at quarter strength or monthly at full strength during active growth. Blooms typically appear in late spring to early summer.
