More information

Masdevallia fractiflexa

Masdevallia fractiflexa

This intriguing species features uniquely bent or zigzag flower stems that create an unusual presentation, with delicate blooms appearing successively when provided with intermediate temperatures and consistent care.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50-70% shade cloth. Direct sun will damage foliage and flowers.
  • Temperature: Intermediate grower. Daytime 64-77°F (18-25°C), nighttime 55-64°F (13-18°C). Requires 10-15°F day-night differential for optimal flowering.
  • Humidity: 65-80% with strong air movement. Maintain with humidity trays, humidifiers, or terrarium culture.
  • Watering: Keep evenly moist throughout the year. Mounted plants need daily watering, potted specimens every 2-3 days. Reduce slightly in winter.

Additional Notes

Native to Ecuador at 1,800-2,800 meters elevation. The species name "fractiflexa" refers to the characteristically bent or broken-appearing flower stems. Thrives mounted on tree fern or cork bark, or potted in fine bark mix with sphagnum moss.
