A hybrid of Masd. MacInnes' Golden Heart and Masd. coccinea, well suited to a cool, humid orchid collection. Its small clumping form makes it an appealing choice for growers who can provide consistent moisture and protection from heat.
-
Light: Moderate, filtered light with protection from direct midday sun. An east-facing window with a sheer curtain or a shaded greenhouse position is suitable.
-
Temperature: Cool-growing; aim for daytime temperatures of 60–72°F (16–22°C) and nights of 50–58°F (10–14°C). Avoid prolonged temperatures above 80°F (27°C).
-
Humidity: Maintain 70–85% humidity with gentle, continuous air circulation.
-
Watering: Keep the potting mix evenly moist without becoming waterlogged. Do not allow the roots to dry out completely. Use rainwater, reverse-osmosis water, or other low-mineral water, and ensure excellent drainage.
Additional Notes:
Upright, oval green leaves form a tidy clump. Grow in a small pot with an airy, moisture-retentive mix, such as fine orchid bark with sphagnum moss. Repot before the medium breaks down, and apply fertilizer sparingly to protect the fine roots from salt buildup.
