Maxillaria Johann Blatter

This exceptional hybrid orchid, a cross between Max. irrorata and Max. elegantula, combines the best traits of its parent species to produce vibrant, fragrant blooms with remarkable vigor. Named in honor of a distinguished botanist, this cultivar is celebrated for its reliable flowering and adaptable nature.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light with some morning sun. Provide 50-70% shade. Avoid harsh afternoon sun.
  • Temperature: Intermediate conditions with days of 65-75°F (18-24°C) and nights of 55-65°F (13-18°C). Benefits from a 10-15°F night drop to encourage blooming.
  • Humidity: Maintain 60-80% humidity using humidifiers, pebble trays, or regular misting. Ensure good air circulation to prevent disease.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when medium approaches dryness, typically every 3-5 days in active growth. Reduce frequency in winter but maintain slight moisture. Ensure excellent drainage.

Additional Notes:

Produces colorful, waxy flowers with sweet fragrance that intensifies in the morning. Forms compact clumps of pseudobulbs with attractive foliage, making it suitable for windowsill culture or small growing spaces.
