More information

Maxillaria notylioglossa

Maxillaria notylioglossa

A spectacular floriferous species from the cloud forests of Ecuador, producing an extraordinary mass of small flowers simultaneously across the entire plant. The blooms are borne on short scapes nestled among the foliage, with narrow, spreading tepals and a distinctly lobed, dark-toned lip contrasting against the bright yellow petals and sepals.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can stress the dense, creeping growth habit.
  • Temperature: 54–75°F (12–24°C); an intermediate grower that performs well with good air circulation and stable conditions.
  • Humidity: 65–80%; consistent humidity is key for this clumping, multi-growth species.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to partially dry between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the root zone.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a wide, shallow pot or basket with a well-draining bark mix to accommodate its spreading habit. A showstopper in full bloom. Shipped bare root in well-established condition.
