Microgramma tecta

Microgramma tecta

A delicate and charming epiphytic fern native to the tropical forests of the Americas, prized for its creeping rhizomes and dimorphic fronds — small, rounded sterile fronds contrasting with longer, narrower fertile fronds bearing sori. A rewarding species for terrarium culture, mounted displays, or vivarium setups where its naturally rambling, moss-like habit can be fully appreciated.

  • Light: Low to medium indirect light; mimics the dappled shade of its forest floor and epiphytic habitat. Avoid direct sun, which can desiccate the delicate fronds.
  • Temperature: Intermediate growing. 60–75°F (15–24°C); protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 70–95%; high humidity is essential. Best grown in a terrarium, vivarium, or enclosed setup to maintain consistent moisture levels.
  • Watering: Keep substrate and roots consistently moist; never allow to dry out completely. Mounted plants benefit from regular misting.

Additional Notes:

Rhizomes creep freely and root at nodes, making this species ideal for mounting on cork bark, tree fern fiber, or driftwood. Fertilize very lightly every 4–6 weeks with a diluted balanced fertilizer. Excellent air circulation alongside high humidity prevents fungal issues.
