Mikania Red

Mikania Red

Mikania Red is a striking tropical foliage plant prized for its dramatically dark, near-black leaves accented by vivid crimson veining. This rare member of the Asteraceae family makes a bold statement in any indoor or outdoor tropical collection, offering intense color contrast and a lush, velvety texture that few plants can match.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch the foliage. A spot near an east- or north-facing window is ideal indoors.
  • Temperature: Warm-growing — prefers 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C) and cold drafts.
  • Humidity: High humidity of 60–80% is ideal. Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or group with other tropical plants to maintain moisture levels.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the top inch of the substrate feels dry. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. Reduce frequency slightly in cooler months.

Additional Notes:

Foliage is the main attraction — deep burgundy-black leaves with contrasting red veins create a dramatic, jewel-like effect. A fast grower under optimal conditions, Mikania Red works beautifully as a hanging plant or trailing accent. Fertilize monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
