Philodendron colombianum (Big)

Philodendron colombianum (Big)

A bold and fast-growing climbing Philodendron from Colombian and Ecuadorian rainforests, producing large, broadly heart-shaped leaves in rich deep green with a glossy surface and prominent venation — a classic tropical statement plant that develops impressive size with proper support.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; tolerates moderate light but grows faster and produces larger leaves with better light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the foliage.
  • Temperature: Warm-growing; thrives between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect from temperatures below 60°F (15°C) and cold drafts.
  • Humidity: High humidity preferred, ideally 60–80%. Adapts to average indoor conditions but develops larger, more lustrous leaves with higher ambient moisture.
  • Watering: Allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Avoid waterlogging — ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
  • Growth Habit: Vigorous climber that benefits from a moss pole or totem. Leaves become progressively larger as the plant climbs — providing vertical support is essential to achieving its full ornamental potential.

Additional Notes:

Best grown in a chunky, well-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, and potting soil. Install a moss pole at planting time and keep it moist to encourage aerial root attachment. This is a large-growing species — plan for ample vertical space as it matures.
