Philodendron verrucosum Fantasy

Philodendron verrucosum Fantasy

A spectacular selection of Phil. verrucosum, 'Fantasy' captivates with its large, cordate, velvety dark green leaves adorned with a bold, radiating network of creamy-white venation that becomes even more dramatic at maturity. The characteristic densely hairy petioles with green trichomes, a rosy cataphyll, and the mesmerizing unfurling of new leaves make this one of the most theatrical and rewarding verrucosum forms to grow.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; essential to bring out the full contrast of the white venation against the dark velvety surface. Avoid direct sun.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to cool-growing; prefers 60–75°F (15–24°C). Protect from heat above 85°F (29°C) and temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: High humidity essential — maintain 70–90%. A humidifier or enclosed growing space is strongly recommended.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist but never waterlogged. Allow the top inch to dry slightly between waterings; excellent drainage is critical.
  • Growth Habit: Vining and climbing; benefits from a moss pole or support structure to encourage larger, more dramatically veined leaves as it matures.

Additional Notes:

The 'Fantasy' form is distinguished by its exceptionally bold creamy-white venation pattern on a deep velvety green background, densely hairy green petioles, and a rosy cataphyll. Venation contrast becomes increasingly dramatic with maturity. Fertilize lightly during the growing season with a balanced, diluted fertilizer.
