More information

Philodendron verrucosum J.C.L.

Philodendron verrucosum J.C.L.

A distinguished selection of Philodendron verrucosum, the J.C.L. form presents large, broadly cordate leaves in vibrant medium green with a well-defined network of pale yellow-green venation. Dark reddish-brown petioles provide a striking contrast to the bright foliage, and new leaves emerge in warm amber tones before maturing to green — a captivating growth cycle that makes this cultivar a standout among verrucosum collectors.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; brings out the full contrast of the venation pattern. Avoid direct sun, which can bleach the foliage.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to cool-growing; prefers 60–75°F (15–24°C). Protect from heat above 85°F (29°C) and temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: High humidity essential — maintain 70–90%. A humidifier or enclosed growing space is strongly recommended.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist but never waterlogged. Allow the top inch to dry slightly between waterings; excellent drainage is critical.
  • Growth Habit: Vining and climbing; benefits from a moss pole or support structure to encourage larger leaf development as it matures.

Additional Notes:

Distinguished from other verrucosum selections by its brighter green foliage and dark reddish-brown petioles. New leaves emerge in warm amber tones, adding seasonal visual interest. Fertilize lightly during the growing season with a balanced, diluted fertilizer.
