A selected intraspecific cross of Phrag. besseae, pairing the 'Multiflower' cultivar — prized for producing multiple successive blooms per spike — with the 'Gualaceo' clone from Ecuador. The result is a vibrant, fire-red to orange-red flower with a bright orange pouch and a warm yellow center, delivered on sequential branching spikes.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; an east- or shaded south-facing window is ideal. Avoid direct midday sun.
  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate-growing — 58–72°F (14–22°C) days, with cooler nights around 52–58°F (11–14°C).
  • Humidity: 65–85%. Good air circulation is essential.
  • Watering: Keep the media consistently moist; Phrag. besseae thrives with near-constant moisture. Use low-mineral or filtered water.

Additional Notes:

The 'Multiflower' parentage gives this cross an extended blooming season, with spikes capable of producing several flowers in succession. Native to Ecuadorian cloud forests, Phrag. besseae is one of the most coveted slipper orchid species for its brilliant coloration. Grow in fine bark or sphagnum moss with excellent drainage.
