More information

Phragmipedium Gerardo Guachisaca

Phragmipedium Gerardo Guachisaca

This distinguished slipper orchid hybrid is a cross between Phrag. caudatum and Phrag. manzurii, combining the impressive, elongated petals and vigorous growth of Phrag. caudatum with the refined coloration and compact habit of Phrag. manzurii.

  • Light: Prefers moderate, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, especially during the midday hours, as this can easily scorch the leaves.
  • Temperature: Thrives in intermediate temperatures. Ideal daytime temperatures should range between 18-24°C (65-75°F), with a slight drop at night to 13-18°C (55-65°F).
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity, ideally between 60-80%. Excellent air circulation is still essential to prevent fungal issues, especially in humid conditions.
  • Watering: This hybrid demands consistent moisture. Proper care involves using well-draining growing media, maintaining consistent soil moisture. The potting medium should never be allowed to dry out completely.

Additional Notes

The flowers of Phrag. Gerardo Guachisaca display elegant pale green to cream petals with subtle pink striping and bronze accents. The prominent rose-pink pouch contrasts beautifully with the gracefully arched petals and elongated dorsal sepal. This hybrid produces sequential flowers on sturdy stems.
