Phragmipedium humboldtii 'Fortuna'

This slipper orchid is a naturally occurring species, prized for its unique floral characteristics and exceptional vigor. It stands as one of the most impressive species in the genus, renowned for its extraordinarily long tail-like petals.

  • Light: Flourishes in bright, indirect light. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as it can lead to leaf burn. Filtered light, such as that provided by a shaded greenhouse, is ideal.
  • Temperature: Maintain a temperate environment by providing daytime temperatures between 18-25°C (64-77°F) and cooler nights around 15-17°C (59-63°F).
  • Humidity: Aim for humidity levels between 60-70%. Using humidifiers, pebble trays, or misting can help achieve these levels.
  • Watering: Regular, moderate watering is crucial. Ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot.

Additional notes

These flowers are known for their extremely long and drooping petals, which are their most distinctive feature. These petals can reach impressive lengths, creating a dramatic effect.
